Sailing certificates in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of Asia's best places to learn to sail. Juniors from abroad earn internationally recognised RYA and HKSF certificates in a summer; Hong Kong juniors build toward racing and club life.
What the programme is
Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1 to 4 and Dinghy Levels 1 to 3, and Hong Kong Sailing Federation (HKSF) Levels 1 to 3, taught at RYA- and HKSF-recognised centres and member clubs in Aberdeen, Middle Island, Sai Kung and Tuen Mun. Powerboat Level 2 is available from age 12 at some centres. The Hong Kong Pleasure Vessel Operator licence itself requires age 18, so junior pathways are built on the certificate schemes.
Why it matters for admissions
Certificates are externally assessed and portable: a Stage 4 or Level 3 sailor can join school and club racing programmes in Singapore, Hawaiʻi, California, New York and at U.S. boarding schools. Sailing combines physical skill, judgement and teamwork in a way admissions readers recognise.
How AJPE arranges it
For visiting families, a two- to four-week summer plan with course bookings, supervised accommodation and a Hong Kong itinerary around the sailing. For Hong Kong families, a multi-year pathway from first course to racing squad, aligned with the club membership question where relevant.
Timing
Courses run year-round; June to August is the main season for visiting juniors. Typhoon-season contingencies are built in.
